Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and head to the hotel in Nairobi
Our safari will begin by picking up at the airport on your arrival and then transfer to a hotel in Nairobi where you will check-in, relax and spend an overnight.
Day 2: Transfer to Masai Mara National Reserve
Begin the journey to Masai Mara national reserve an amazing tourist destination for wildlife viewing. This reserve is renown to hosting Africa’s big five which are; elephants, buffaloes, rhinos, lions and leopards. The park is a home to other animal species and also hosts the annual wildebeest migration. While on the way, have a major stopover at the great rift valley viewing point for photography. Arrive and head to the lodge for your dinner.
Day 3&4: Masai Mara exploration
Spend these 2 days exploring the beautiful Mara plains as you take part in game drives. There is a lot to discover while on the game drive for example you will be expose to some animal species for example; rhinos, elephants, buffalos, wildebeests, gazelles, impalas, topis, warthogs, giraffes, crocodiles and cheetahs, birds like the ground hornbills, vultures, eagles will also be seen in this reserve.
You will be able to witness the migration of wildebeests crossing River Mara to and from, this migration involves millions of wildebeests and zebras which is the biggest animal movement thus attracting savanna predators especially lions, leopards, hyenas, cheetahs which tempt to kill and thus spicing your safari. A picnic lunch will be served at animal view point and thereafter proceed with game drive till late evening and head back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Head back to Nairobi and fly to Zanzibar
After a night, enjoy breakfast at the balcony of your lodge and head to Nairobi city to catchup with a schedule flight to Zanzibar. Be welcomed by the guide that will take you through briefing about this amazing tourism destination known for its beautiful beaches. You will transfer to the hotel for dinner.
Day 6: Tour the prison island and the Stone Town
Breakfast will open up the day and head to Prison Island which is known as the tortoise island. This island was first used by the early explorers mainly the Arabs as a captive area for rebellious slaves during salve trade. Later on, it was used a quarantine area for people suffering from yellow fever and now it was turned to be a home for the giant Aldabra tortoises. Learn the history of this island and feed the tortoise which will be a great adventure.
You will visit the religious sites, the former prison market, museums, and local markets which displays the fresh fruits and clothing and many more others.
Day 7: Visit Jozani Chwaka Forest
Have breakfast at your pace and then take a boat cruise that will take you to Jozani Chwaka forest the only forest reserve at the island of Zanzibar. Take a guided nature walk where you spot animals including the Zanzibar red colobus monkeys which are unique primate species at the island.
Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 8: Spice tour and visit Forodhani street market
Take a spice tour where you get to learn about the different types of spices such as the cloves, chili, ginger, lemon grass, coriander, turmeric, nutmeg and many more others.
Thereafter, you will head to the hotel for relaxation and then in the evening, visit Forodhani street market where you get to taste the different Zanzibar foods like the sea and street foods. Return to the hotel for your dinner
Day 9&11: Beach activities and leisure
Spend these days exploring the beach activities like swimming, sunbathing, traditional dhow cruise, beach soccer, snorkeling among other beach games. These days you will taste the beauty of Zanzibar beach which is one of the world’s paradise.
Day 12: Departure
Begin the day with light breakfast on sunrise. Then check out from the resort hotel. Transfer to the airport in Zanzibar where you will board an international flight back home. This marks the end 12 Days Masai Mara & Zanzibar Safari.
