The annual wildebeest migration takes place annually between Serengeti national park and Ngorongoro conservation area where over 2 million animals inclusive of 1.5 million wildebeests, 400,000 zebras, 250,000 gazelles and other antelopes embark on a journey of 800 kilometers in search of greener pastures and water.
There are only two types of wildebeests found in the world and the one in the migration is blue/common wildebeests. According to scientists and researchers, the black wildebeests became a distinct species about 1 million years ago. Both species have small hindquarters while the front end is bigger and heavier.
They mainly live in grassy plains and sometimes woodlands.
