Entry fee also known as conservation fee is money charged per person entering to Masai Mara. It’s usually valid for 24 hours. Cash payments are done at the gate in USD or Kenyan shillings except if you’re paying at the Mara conservation area and Mara triangle where only cashless payments are allowed.
Masai Mara entry fee
Entry fee at the Masai Mara will depend on the place you’re staying while visiting Masai Mara national reserve. The location of your accommodation that is inside or outside the reserve will determine your entry fee.
Apart from entry fee, there is also vehicle entry fee, ranger fees, camping fee and other fees you will have to pay while at Masai Mara.
Foreign non residents staying at accommodations inside the reserve will pay $200 for adults and $100 for their children under the age of 12 years whereas foreign non residents staying outside the reserve will pay $200 for adults and $100 for foreign non resident children under the age of 12 years. Students pay entry fee of $40 per person.
East African citizens pay a fee of Kshs 1200 per person for adults, Kshs 500 for east African children and Kshs 500 for East African students. Kenyan citizen adults pay Kshs 1000 for adults and Kshs 300 for Kenyan citizen children and students.
Also take note that student rates only apply for people of 23 years and below. They should present their school identity cards for verification. Vehicles with 45 seater and above will pay Kshs 5000. 24 – 44 seater will pay Kshs 4000, 13 – 24 seater will pay Kshs 3000. 6 – 12 seater will pay Kshs 1000 while vehicles with lesser than 6 seater will pay only Kshs 400.
While having game drives, nature walks or during night camping. Ranger fees is Kshs 3000 for drives beyond 6hours and Kshs 1500 for game drives below 6hours. For night security at the camp, you need to pay Kshs 4000 for Ranger fees.
Aircraft landing fee is Kshs 3000 for 21 seaters and above. Kshs 2000 for 15 – 20 seater, Kshs 1000 for 7 – 14 seater. Kshs 500 for 3 – 6 seater and Kshs 300 for aircrafts with below 3 seats below.
There is a proposed plan to increase entry fee to Masai Mara by 1st January 2024. You should always check for updated rates.
