Wildebeests migration
The migration starts from around Ngorongoro conservation area, Olduvai Gorge, Ndutu and Saloi plains of Tanzania where calving takes place with thousands of wildebeests born on a daily basis though not all of them make it as predators wait patiently for the vulnerable ones to prey on.
The wildebeests then start to move to Serengeti plains and Grumeti rivers before starting to cross the great Mara river in July. Danger lurks within the rivers as crocodiles wait to grab a meal, the herds spread across Masai Mara plains throughout the peak season and start their journey back to Tanzania in October. The migration includes about 2 million wildebeests,250,000 zebras, hundreds of gazelles and other antelopes closely monitored by predators.
Apart from the most sought activity that is the wildebeests migration in these national parks, Serengeti national park and Masai Mara national reserve have abundant wildlife offering excellent wildlife viewing and bird watching experiences to tourists. The big five are present in both conservation areas.
