Masai Mara national reserve in the most visited conservation area in Kenya popularly known for the great wildebeest migration and excellent wildlife watching opportunities. The drive from Nairobi capital city to the reserve is 5 to 6 hours by road but only an hour’s flight by air transport.
Airstrips in Masai Mara
Olkiombo airstrip
Olkiombo airstrip is situated at the north eastern end of the reserve close to the Talek River at Masai Mara some of the hotels close to the airstrip include, Kicheche bush camp, Naibor camp, Mara Intrepid, Fig tree camp, Porini lion camp and Mara explorer among the rest.
Olare Orok airstrip
Olare Orok is situated at the northern part of Masai Mara at Olare Motorogi conservancy. Flights land to Olare Orok airstrip from Nairobi twice daily. Accommodation close to the airstrip includes fig tree camp, mara intrepids, oroni lion camp, Base camp and Naibor camp among the rest.
Keekorok airstrip
Keeekorok airstrip is situated at the south east sector of Masai Mara national reserve measuring 1280 meters length. The airstrip serves lodges such as Mara sopa lodge, Mara sarova game lodge, Sekekani camp and Keekorok lodge.
Serena airstrip
Serena airstrip is one of the largest airstrips situated at Masai mara national reserve with a length of 1050 meters, facilities at the airstrip include washrooms, lounge and parking. This airstrip mainly serves the luxurious Mara serena lodge and other lodges close by.
Ol seki airstrip
Oleseki airstrip is also located in Masai Mara at Naibosho conservancy with a 2.17 kilometers length. Serving some hotels in Masai Mara and the neighboring conservancies.
Kichwa tembo airstrip
Kichwa tembo airstrip is located at the northern part of Masai mara. It’s one of the most used airstrips serving the reserve, some lodges close to the airstrip include Kichwa tembo camp and Mpata lodge.
Angama airstrip
Angama airstrip known by IATA code as ARA was constructed by the Mara conservancy in 1990s. Covering 1260 runway that was recently expanded to 2500 meters length and 30 meters width. Lodges near Angama airstrip include Mara west camp, Mara Angama lodge and many others.
Ngerende airstrip
Ngerende airstrip is located at the border of Masai Mara game reserve in Olchoro – Oirogua conservation ranch. Although the airstrip is located outside the reserve it still serves nearby lodges and camps inside the reserve.
Mara north airstrip
Mara north airstrip is located at the Mara North conservancy situated within the boundaries of Masai mara conservancy. Some of the lodges close to Mara North include Saruni wild camp, Saruni wild camp, Mara camp and many others.
Musiara airstrip
Musiara airstrip is situated at the northern part of the reserve. It is one of the most commonly used airstrips In Masai mara. Some of the nearby accommodation options close to Musiara airstrip include. Neptune mara rianta camp, moran camp, serian camp, little guvnors camp and many others.
